Who are you? Well, my name is Patrick. Um, everybody calls me PAC man but I go on my stage name the round hero cause there's a lot of rapper PAC mans. So the round hero has some kind of uniqueness to it. I was freestyling with my friends and um, I was like PAC man coming out from the bottom, like ground zero here to save the game its the round hero and then it just stuck.
To me consciousness, would be, you know, being aware, being aware of yourself and being aware of your surroundings because you know, I personally believe that you're a product of your own surroundings, you know, to be conscious. It's just, you know, thinking about where you are and then the time in the moment and just to enjoy where you're at at the time. Would you say your top five Rappers? I wouldn't have to go in a specific order, but I grew up on a lot of slim, shady, big pun, cause I'm half Puerto Rican, so I have to rep. Joell Ortiz, he's under shady records. My little brother, he goes by "Calamity". He's, also a producer as well. He's one of my favorite rappers, he's from New Orleans. and this kid from my hometown shaver. He's not really known, but he's a favorite of mine.
If you had to compare yourself to another artist. Who would that be? Hmm. I don't really like comparing myself to other people. It just feels, I don't know, self centered. I just like being myself. I mean, a lot of people when they hear me rhyme, a lot of people will say different names. Those Busta rhymes, Lupe fiasco. Mos Def.
Would you say? Your were influenced by them a little bit?
Yeah, for sure. Yeah. They were all big influences. I listened to a lot of them growing up.
How has it been working with the conscious crew so far? Oh man, it's been great. They've been giving mad opportunities to artists from the area, from outside of the area, giving not even just like MCs, like the other DJs. My boy Rowan that made this shirt, he came and filled the walls full of his paintings and many people came to the conscious crew show, nothing but love and has given people the chance to feel the love from the city. Best thing you can ask for.
What do you think about the Des Moines music scene?
Well, I'm not originally from here, but seeing the Des Moines area and the growth yeah, I'm happy with what it is. I mean, I've seen nothing but love every time I've got onstage. What's best about this circle is that we're really promoting like a community as everybody's helping each other grow.
Right. That's amazing. And that's something new, keep your eyes open because 2020 is going to be big for the Conscious Crew.
